Welding Processes
The three most common types of welding are outlined above:
- Stick - SMAW (shielded metal arc welding)
- MIG - GMAW (gas metal arc welding)
- TIG - GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding)
In all of these methods, the weld is created in the Molten Weld Pool.
Shielding that Molton Pool of Metal is required to prevent exposing it to oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen contained in the air atmosphere.
Filler Metal is almost always supplied in the processes as well.
Those two tasks are accomplished in different ways depending on the welding method.
