Cutting Stainless Wide Flange Beams
We offer a wide range of value-added services, including production sawing. We recently cut laser-fused stainless steel wide flange beams on our Hydmech, an automatic band saw.
What Are Stainless Wide Flange Beams?
Wide flange beams, also known as W-beams or H-beams, have a distinctive shape characterized by two wide, parallel flanges connected by a vertical web. The flanges, the horizontal elements, are wider and often thicker at their junction with the web, distributing loads over a larger area and providing significant strength. The vertical web, thinner than the flanges, connects them and resists shear forces.
The H-like shape offers excellent stability and load-bearing capacity, making wide flange beams ideal for structural applications in buildings, bridges, and other heavy-duty constructions.
When beams are stainless steel, they offer resistance to corrosion and oxidation. Stainless steel's chromium content forms a passive layer of chromium oxide on the surface, preventing rust.
What are Laser Fused Beams?
Laser-fused wide flange beams are structural steel beams created through laser fusion. This method involves using high-precision laser welding to join two or more pieces of steel to form a single, continuous beam.
Production Sawing by Band Saw
Band saws are widely used for cutting wide flange beams because they can handle large and irregular shapes. A band saw is a power saw with a long, continuous band of toothed metal stretched between two or more wheels. The material is fed into the moving blade, which slices through it with a consistent, straight cut.
Key Features of Production Sawing
- Accuracy: Production sawing creates clean cuts, has minimal material loss, and can cut complex shapes.
- Scalability: The ability to handle high volumes makes production sawing ideal for small-scale operations and large manufacturing facilities.
- Quality Control: Consistent and precise cuts contribute to the uniformity and reliability of parts.
Finished Project
After cutting, we check each piece and package the material carefully to keep it safe during transit. Once packed, we prepare it for shipping, ensuring it's secure and ready to go. This way, our customers get high-quality, ready-to-use parts quickly and in great shape.
